MOTÖRHEAD Drummer To Sit Out Tour In Order To Take Part In Swedish Reality-TV Show

MOTÖRHEAD drummer Mikkey Dee will sit out most of the band's upcoming North American tour in order to take part in the first season of "Kändisdjungeln", the Swedish version of the popular U.K. and U.S. reality-TV show "I'm a Celebrity…Get Me out of Here!"

"Phil [Campbell, MOTÖRHEAD guitarist] and Lemmy [MOTÖRHEAD mainman Ian Kilmister] have seen the show and think it's pretty cool," Mikkey tells the Aftonbladet newspaper. "They think I'm crazy [for doing it] but pretty cool."

An anonymous source tells Aftonbladet that it's been difficult finding celebrities who want to appear on the show. Legendary Swedish tennis player Björn Borg is said to have gotten an offer to take part in the program but has declined to be involved and his wife Patricia Borg is also believed to have been approached.

A total of 10 celebrities will appear in the inaugural season of "Kändisdjungeln", with Mikkey and Bengt Frithiofsson — one of Sweden's leading wine experts — the only ones announced so far.

"I start the U.S. tour with MOTÖRHEAD on August 27," Dee tells the Expressen newspaper. "I just have time to play a couple of gigs before it's time to go to the jungles of Malaysia to do this TV show. I will then rejoin the band on the road and finish out the tour."

Dee, 45, says that he has received MOTÖRHEAD frontman Lemmy's blessings to appear on the program even though the filming is scheduled to take place in the middle of the band's headlining tour. "There will be a replacement drummer [for the dates that I will be unable to make] — who exactly that will be, we don't know yet. However, I will still be promoting MOTÖRHEAD [on the TV show] by wearing the band's T-shirts with the MOTÖRHEAD logo on them."

Mikkey is psyched about the trip to the jungle but also knows that it will not be an easy task.

"It will be a tough adventure," he tells Expressen. "We will be there for three weeks."

"Kändisdjungeln" is expected to be one of biggest shows of the fall for TV4, which is Sweden's largest television network. The program's format allows viewers to vote, by phone, text message or TV interactive service for the celebrity to complete a physical task usually involving snakes, spiders or other animals and for the celebrity they would like to see win. The last celebrity, after all the others have been evicted, is the winner and is named king or queen of the jungle.

A total of 16 episodes of "Kändisdjungeln" are expected to air throughout September, which is something that Mikkey Dee appreciates. "As far as I know, we will appear on TV at least one hour every day," Dee tells Expressen.
